Join us for an evening to thank Don & Doris Wenig for what they accomplished for the library. Invite some friends, bring your favorite chocolate chip delight to share, and come to enjoy.
In Doris’ own words:
January 1, 1998 – “The cookie idea came to me from a tiny book written by Bill Holm, a visiting author. Bernice Pomeroy said, “I’ll provide the cookies.” I was looking for ideas from people about how do we save the library? a friend from Elgin, Susan Shields, went to her pickup, grabbed her horse feeding bucket and said, “Sure you need ideas, but it takes money too!” People began to drop coins and bills into the bucket and at the end of the two hours, I had $90. The next day I did the same thing and collected $99. But the best thing was the people expressed how important the library was. This gave me the hope I needed.”
We’ll have coffee, lemonade, good conversation, and some special time with local writer J.P.S. Brown.
J.P.S Brown is a fifth generation Arizona and Sonora, Mexico Cattleman, Author of 11 books about cowboys, horses and cattle. Recipient of the Will James Society Big Enough Award and the Arizona Historical Society/Pima Public Library Lawrence Clark Powell Award. His novels include: Wolves at our Door, The World in Pancho’s Eyes, and Jim Kane.
